Our Story

Heritage and purpose

“Jiu-jitsu is not something you learn once. It is something you practice forever. Our job is to create an environment where that practice is honest, rigorous, and welcoming.”

— Prof. Ricardo Almeida, Founder

Cypress Combat Club was established in 2012 by Professor Ricardo Almeida, a third-degree black belt whose lineage traces directly through the Gracie family to the founders of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. What began as a small academy has grown into one of Los Angeles's most respected martial arts institutions.

Our academy is built on the principle that authentic martial arts education should be accessible to everyone — regardless of age, background, or prior experience. We maintain the highest standards of technical instruction while fostering a community defined by mutual respect and shared dedication to the art.

With over 300 active members, a coaching staff that holds multiple world championship titles, and a kids program that has become a model for youth martial arts education, Cypress Combat Club represents what a legacy academy should be: rooted in tradition, committed to excellence, and always evolving.
